ベルント＆ヒラ・ベッヒャー（Bernd & Hilla Becher）は、20世紀後半の写真と現代美術の歴史を変えたドイツのアーティスト夫妻です。 彼らが撮影したのは、人ではなく給水塔、水塔、高炉、ガスタンク、炭鉱施設、冷却塔などの産業建築物、1959年頃から、消えつつあったドイツやヨーロッパ、アメリカの工業施設を体系的に撮影し続けました。 下記の厳密なルールで撮影をしました。 ・曇り空で撮る ・人を入れない ・正面から撮る ・同じ距離感で撮る ・同じ種類の建物を並べる 作品を写真1枚ずつではなくグリッド状にたくさん並べて展示することで、図鑑や標本のように見えてきます。彼らはこれを「タイポロジー（類型学）」と呼びました。 写真作品というよりは、写真を使ったコンセプチュアルアートといえます。 本書はフランクフルト現代美術館（MUSEUM für Moderne Kunst）」の収蔵作品をまとめた一冊で、重要なコレクションの一つです。 A photobook by the renowned German artists Bernd & Hilla Becher. Among the most influential figures in postwar photography, the Bechers systematically documented industrial structures such as water towers, blast furnaces, gas tanks, and mining facilities. Working according to a strict set of rules—photographing under overcast skies, excluding people, using a frontal viewpoint, maintaining a consistent distance, and presenting buildings of the same type together—they developed a distinctive visual language. Displayed in grids, their photographs resemble scientific atlases or specimen collections. The Bechers referred to this method as "typology," and their work is widely regarded as a pioneering form of conceptual art through photography. This volume brings together works from the collection of the Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt (MMK) and represents one of the key collections of the Bechers' work.
