Launched in 2002 as the sister publication to the acclaimed gay culture magazine BUTT Magazine, KUTT features early works by Ryan McGinley and Viviane Sassen, alongside interviews with Chloë Sevigny and Eileen Myles. More than a document of queer culture, it captures the distinctive atmosphere of early-2000s photography, fashion, and graphic design. The cover features a photograph by Viviane Sassen. Rather than presenting lesbian/dyke culture solely through political discourse, KUTT explored it through photography, fashion, art, and everyday life. Edited by artist and activist Jessica Gysel, the magazine reclaimed the Dutch slang word kut—a vulgar term for the female genitalia—not as an insult, but as a word of empowerment and self-definition. This act of linguistic reclamation became central to the magazine's queer feminist ethos. Art direction was by Jop van Bennekom and Gert Jonkers, who would later go on to found influential publications such as Fantastic Man and The Gentlewoman.
