Regarding the work Rainbow, Noguchi writes: “I visited the Tottori Sand Dunes — a place I had long wanted to see. Shortly after arriving, I began walking across the sand. After a while, I noticed a figure in the distance. As I watched, wondering what they were doing, a large red-and-white wing suddenly opened, and the person gently floated into the air before quietly landing back on the ground. It all happened in an instant; it felt like watching a rainbow that disappears the moment you realize it is there.” — Rika Noguchi To faithfully reproduce the delicate world of Noguchi’s work, meticulous color adjustments were carried out at the printing plate design stage, calibrated with precision down to 1% increments. In addition, to convey the “sense of air” surrounding the parachute, the book uses Arabelle paper — an unusual choice for a photobook — creating a soft, airy texture. A French-fold binding has also been adopted, allowing readers to turn each page carefully and experience the work in a uniquely intimate way. ○ Author Profile Rika Noguchi Born in 1971 in Saitama, Japan; currently based in Okinawa. Noguchi began creating photographic works in 1992 and has since exhibited extensively in Japan and internationally.
